Up for bid is the following:   Electric, Barnstead, by Sybron Corporation, Boston, Mass.  Still (Distiller) unit for scientific research ??????????   Model A1606, serial M-79-10099.  Boston Mass.   G.P.H.  is  .5  rated 1.3 KW.  Has an ASCO, Automatic Switch Company electrical Switch, apparently adjustable as the red button rotates left/right, catalot number of switch is J8267B15.   On the switch in small letters one place I see the word STEAM.   So I presume this is a STILL or DISTILLER...  Could be just for doing plain old water purification for the lab.  You look and decide for yourself....  This came from the local University.  It was surplused.   I do not know for certain if it works or not, but I did plug it in and when I turned the switch on briefly, I could hear some kind of vibration or noise.  With no liquid flowing into it, I thought best NOT to leave it on for an extended period of time.  The little red lamp did not come on, but then, not knowing anything about the way this item performs, not sure it was supposed to.   Or could be it only come on when a certain condition is met.  Or maybe the lamp is burned out.....    Anyway, I found a web site for the company but everything was in a foreign language so I could not learn anything about the unit.   Somewhere on the unit is did see the word STILL and its appearance made sense that it was some kind of distiller to be used in the sicence lab.   Could be worth a week's pay, a day's pay, or then again, not worth the time it took to list it....  I am hoping at least a  day's pay anyway....... especially since all laboratory type equipment I have found to be very expensive new as well as used. I must point out that the cap on the recieving jug is supposed to have a little inlet.  The inlet is snapped off and inside the end of the hose that attaches to it.   Could easily be melted/welded back on with the use of a 30 watt pencil type solder iron.   If it brings a FMV, I will attempt to do this for buyer if so requested. Item Sells AS IS since I know nothing about its history or able to determine anything definite by powering it up.   Buy it and like it but I have had tremendous luck finding that a large percentage of what I buy at this bi-annual surplus auction of this University, SMU in Springfield is/was working when they took it out of service.    They just no longer needed it or replaced it with something bigger, better, or newer.
