Description
Professional WILD (Wild Heerbrugg) Stereo Microscope Model M5 with domed metal "field" canister and a pair of Wild 20x eyepieces with reticule I’m offering, from perhaps one of the most respected microscope companies in the world, a professional 1950’s-70’s stereo microscope….the Wild (Wild Heerbrugg) Stereo Microscope Model M5. This exciting microscope comes with the optional Diascopic mirror/light base, 20x Wild eyepieces (with reticule), plus the metal domed metal canister. The serial number is shown as M5-82477. The Wild M5 stereo microscope was first introduced in 1958 and has had a loyal following ever since. It is still remains popular at many biological and geological research laboratories, and when equipped with its metal canister (field) hood, the M5 stereo microscope is in demand by biologists for use in the field. You’ll notice that this particular model comes with the optional Diascopic mirror/light base. This base attaches to the bottom of the M5 microscope base with a single bolt and secures it solidly. The base also contains 2 side arms with retaining screws at either end. These arms are meant to attach 2 arm rests, but can also be used to attach 2 side lighting units. The arm rests and/ I’m listing for auction what I believe is one of the highest quality professional late or lighting units were, unfortunately, not included when I bought this microscope. The base contains a swival mirror assembly and contains a hole in the rear for a lighting unit. Incidentally I’d like to thank Jay Stanley (classic optics.com) for his expert and friendly assistance in helping me identify just exactly what I had. Check out his great Wild Heerbrugg web site. The rotating magnification head is marked for powers of 6, 12, 25, and 50, with a working distance of about 96 mm (3 3/4 inches). Two very good condition Wild 20x eyepieces are included. You will notice that the one 20x Wild eyepiece has the adjustable spacer-ring attached. It also contains a reticule which is calibrated up to 100mm. The round stage plate is clear on one side and frosted on the reversed. The stage clips are missing but trhese can be easily found on e-bay or any microscope shop. These clips appear to be almost a universal fit. Mechanically and optically the microscope works beautifully. Focusing is firm and positive…and does not “wander”....no slippage! The stereo lenses give superb and brilliant viewing with no overlapping shadows or double image. When the different powers are rotated into place, the fine-tuinfg of the focus is usually not required as the image appears to stay in sharp focus through the magnification ranges. Only a slight focus adjustment is required....usually at the 50x magnification power setting. I was amazed at this fact, as other stereo microscopes that I have always require fine-tuning focus adjustment when switching from one power to the next. The eyepieces can be adjusted by an “inter pupil” (eye separation) adjustment (from 55 to 75) to provide comfortable viewing. The mirror in the Diascopic base swivals by way of a side lever sitruated on ethe fron of the diascopic base. An optional lighting unit can be fit into the rear of the Diascopic base and can be adjusted to reflect onto the mirror. Cosmetically this microscope has been in a lab environment. It once belonged to a local biologist. The creamy finish, is, for the most part, in good overall condition, however there are some stains…in particular, on the back of the Diascopic base. These, I couldn’t seem to remove, although you might have a better method of removal. The 20x wild eyepieces appear clear and bright, although I have detected a tiny black “dot” in the left hand eyepiece. When I rotate the eyepiece in its tube, the almost undetectable dot rotates as well. The black protective sleeve on the post (to protect the head from falling) has some form of bubbly corrosion but I have not tried to remove this. Some fine sandpaper and black spray paint would quickly get it looking like new again. There are no dents/dings on the head or base. The mirror is in perfect condition. The domed canister has a couple of “dings” and some residue where a name tag was removed, but otherwise looks very presentable. The locking clasps hold the dome on solidly. This fine Wild Stereo Model M5 microscope would be a worthy addition to your lab or home. Don't pass this one up! I’ve placed a reasonable and realistic reserve on this microscope, but that being stated I’m offering my “iron-clad” 10 MBG (less return shipping charges) if this professional Wild Stereo Microscope, Model M5 arrives at your door not exactly as described. Talking about shipping, please note that this microscope weighs in excess of 14 pounds so I’ll be shipping it by FedEx or a suitable courier....excpet UPS . Good luck in your bidding! International bidders welcome! Successful high bidder to pay actual shipping/handling/insurance costs except where noted. Shipping is from Victoria, B.C. Canada. I accept PayPal (msymons6456@telus.net). Buyers from Europe, Asia and Australia are encouraged to pay by PayPal. Payment is only accepted in US funds…no exceptions please! Payments can also be made by either a US Dollar Draft, an International Postal Money Order (IPMO) (it must state “International” to be accepted in Canada). I will also accept a personal US check from those bidders who have received a minimum of 40 Positive feedbacks from e-bay, with no “Negative” feedbacks. International bidders who plan to pay by way of a US Dollar Draft or an IPMO should first check to see if their bank has an affiliation with a major US bank, and that the US funds are drawn on a US Bank in their country. Please contact me with any questions regarding payment……before you bid! Note: I reserve the right to cancel a bid (providing the auction is still active) if the bidder has a record of substantial negative feedbacks. I will contact you soon after the close of the particular auction to advise you of the postal/insurance and handling charges for that particular item. Please note: Only bid on this item if you’re serious about purchasing it. Ask questions before you place a bid. Those bidders with a “0” feedback rating, please contact me before placing a bid. I do not sympathize with folks who stop my auction with a “buy-it-Now” and then try to back out! I consider that the buyer needs to post the feedback first. This gives me the opportunity to answer any concerns the buyer may have in his or her feedback about me. Please rest assured that I post positive feedbacks to all good buyers! Buy with confidence from a trusted Nikon collector. Check my sterling e-bay feedback record, currently over 1080 feedbacks (all positives, and no negatives!). A member of the Nikon Historical Society (NHS) for 25 years (1984). Serious collector of early Nikon Rangefinder equipment (my specialty), early Nikon F (1959-61) equipment, Nikon and other quality Japanese microscopes and scientific equipment, Nikon binoculars and telescopes, WWII Nikon (NIKKO) Military Optical equipment. Please contact me if you have any of the above you’d like to sell or trade. I strongly believe in the motto: “The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of the low price is forgotten”. Please submit any questions you might have regarding this item before placing a bid. I will usually respond within 12 hours from the receipt of your message.
